The University of Minnesota has launched a new institute dedicated to identifying and responding to emerging and contemporary infectious diseases. Their work includes outbreak and disease mitigation and control, as well as training the next generation of experts in the field.
The Director of the U of M Institute on Infectious Diseases (UMIID) is MSI PI Michael Gale (professor and head, Microbiology and Immunology). Several other MSI PIs from the Medical School are members of the Core Faculty of the Institute.
Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) broadcast a story about UMIID on July 23, 2025. You can listen to the story on the MPR website: U of M launches new institute focused on infectious diseases.
