A University of Minnesota spinout, Niron Magnetics, broke ground in late September on a facility that will build high-powered, permanent magnets that don’t rely on the use of rare-earth minerals. Niron was founded by Professor Jian-Ping Wang (Electrical and Computer Engineering), a long-time PI who uses MSI resources for his work developing Fe-N based magnets, as well as for investigations into spintronics.
