Research by MSI PI Craig Hill (assistant professor, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, U of M Duluth) is seeking to find ways to harness the power of wave action in Lake Superior to create clean, sustainable energy. The goal of this research is to create wave energy converters, which could be located throughout the lake. Lake Superior’s huge wintertime wave activity makes it an ideal location for this kind of research. A story about Professor Hill’s work appears on the website of the University of Minnesota’s new 2024-25 Driven to Discover Campaign, Healthier. Here, There, and Everywhere: Harnessing the gales of November.
Professor Hill uses MSI resources for fluid dynamics studies that support his research into energy systems and submarine technologies.
