Breeding Cold-Hardy Flowers

Breeding Cold-Hardy Flowers

A recent story by the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum features the U of M’s program to breed chrysanthemums that can survive in Minnesota's climate. MSI PI Neil Anderson (professor, Horticultural Science) has been the director of the Herbaceous Ornamental Breeding Program since 2000. The story discusses the numerous varieties of Chrysanthemum varieties that have been developed by the program, and the search by Professor Anderson and his students to locate specimens of these varieties that weren’t present at the Arboretum. You can read the story on the Arb’s website: Chrysanthemum: A rich history defying geographical boundaries.

Professor Anderson uses MSI resources for a number of projects that are developing cold-hardy varieties of flowers.
