MSI PIs Receive 2021 Research Infrastructure Investment Program Award
Five MSI PIs have received awards from the 2021 Research Infrastructure Investment Program. This Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) program is designed to support transdisciplinary research and collaboration across the U of M. OVPR made ten awards this year.
Below are the MSI PIs who received awards:
Project Title: Closed-Loop Neuromodulation System Upgrade in the Non-Invasive Neuromodulation Laboratories
Professor Chen uses TMS and fMRI techniques to investigate the pathophysiology of spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological disorder that affects the control of the movement of vocal chords.
Project Title: Acquisition of a Quantum Design High-Magnetic-Field/Low-Temperature Physical Property Measurement System
Professor Greven uses MSI to support research into quantum materials, especially the cuprate superconductors and related unconventional superconductors, using diffuse X-ray and neutron scattering, powerful techniques for studying the local electronic and nuclear structure of materials.
Marc Jenkins, Microbiology and Immunology
Project Title: Center for Immunology Equipment
Regents Professor Jenkins uses MSI resources to understand the role of CD4+ T Cells at the organismal, cellular, and molecular level.
Project Title: Diversifying Science and Technology Education Through Strategic Community Engagement
Professor Randoph uses MSI for processing neuroimaging data related to studies of methamphetamine-use disorder and alcohol-use disorder.
Mark Sanders, University Imaging Centers
Project Title: Expanding UIC Core Facility Usage Metrics and Forecasting: A Blueprint for UMN Shared Research Facilities
MSI partners with UIC in a number of research areas, providing compute and storage resources.
