Two MSI PIs Elected to National Academy of Engineering
Two MSI PIs, Professor Arthur Erman (Mechanical Engineering; Director, Earl E. Bakken Medical Devices Center) and Professor Roger Ruan (Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering; Director, Center for Biorefining), have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering for 2025. This is one of the highest awards presented to engineers. A story about the award and the professors’ research appears on the U of M News site: Two University of Minnesota professors elected to the National Academy of Engineering for 2025.
Professor Erdman uses MSI’s supercomputing capabilities to solve complicated device-tissue and/or fluid-structure interaction problems, generate large amounts of FEA data, and enable large-scale design optimization in developing realistic simulation models of medical devices and advanced interactive visualization and design interfaces.
Professor Ruan uses MSI resources in a project to develop a catalytic nonthermal plasma assisted process and system for nitrogen fixation to produce ammonia and nitrate from nitrogen and water.
