A new study co-authored by MSI PI Jason Hill (professor, Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering) shows that people of color are disproportionately affected by particulate matter in the atmosphere. This held true even when controlling for which state people lived in, whether they lived in urban or rural areas, and income level. The study was published in the journal Science Advances and can be found on the journal website: PM2.5 Polluters Disproportionately and Systemically Affect People of Color in the United States. Professor Hill uses MSI to develop and test a reduced-complexity air quality impact model, InMAP, which was featured on the MSI website in 2017: A New Computer Model for Air Pollution.
